The Power of Heels is excited to host Sherri Sechrist, author and retired president of the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce, as Keynote Speaker of the March 31st luncheon. The Power of Heels is the women’s division of the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce.
Sechrist’ presentation, “Move Your Mountain” is a testimony to overcoming adversity, finding your life purpose and achieving your goals. In Sherri’s case, this was her path to becoming a writer of Christian fiction for women.
Sherri is the author of two novels in the series titled “And Also Some Women.” “Twelfth Year” and its companion “The Sin of the Mother” are stories about two different New Testament women. Deeply steeped in research, Sherri uses a contemporary voice to fictionalize what life might have been like for women at the time of Christ. The third book in the series is in progress.
“Today’s world is vastly different from that of life at 30AD,” says Sherri. “However, I am a firm believer that women today are not that different from women of the Bible. Our society and circumstances are changed, but we have not evolved into a new species. Women then and now fell in love, fought with husbands, spoiled and paddled their children, laughed with their friends… just as we do today. My books are an attempt to bring the New Testament women to life in a way that is real and meaningful way for us today.”
Sherri’s books are available on the Amazon website, and she will also have books available for purchase at the Power of Heels meeting.
Sherri has been writing all her life, but began writing fiction in 2009. She retired last year from her role as President of the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce. Prior to the Chamber, Sherri enjoyed a career in sales and marketing, working as the Texas-Louisiana Marketing Manager for Gemaire, a national distributor of HVAC supplies; VP of Marketing for Fort Worth homebuilder Cheldan Homes; and ten years in commercial real estate with the Sundance Square office towers in downtown Fort Worth. Except for two frenetic years of teaching school early in her career, she counts her years at the Burleson Chamber as both most memorable.
Since 1994, Sechrist and husband Steve have made their home in Burleson.
The March 31st Power of Heels Luncheon will be held at Pathway Church, located at 325 NW Renfro St. in Burleson. Doors open at 11:15; meeting to begin promptly at 11:50 and will conclude at 1:00 PM. Title Sponsor for the event is Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South. Huguley Medical Associates, Party Warehouse and H-E-B are Venue, Décor and Sweet Sponsors, respectively. Tickets are $20 for Chamber members, $25 for Non-Members and $25 for all tickets purchased after Wednesday, March 29.
