Adult Education serves a critical role in the development of a well-educated and highly skilled workforce.
It prepares adults for further academic instruction or skills training that leads to employment and self-sufficiency.
Our program provides adult learners with quality programs and services to help them acquire and develop literacy skills leading to a high school equivalency certificate needed to enter college or obtaining sustainable employment, so that they reach their full potential as family members, productive workers, and responsible citizens.
We serve thousands of residents in our service delivery areas (Denton, Collin, Johnson, Erath, Hood and Somervell counties) through academic instruction and skills training to improve their station in life.
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are volunteers trained to be advocates for children who have been abused and neglected and are under the protection of the court. They are appointed by the judge to meet regularly with the child, review records, and talk to family members and professionals involved in the child’s case. They report information to the judge, make recommendations to promote the child’s best interests, and monitor compliance with the court’s orders until the child has been placed in a safe, permanent home. But there are more children in need than we have the volunteer or financial capacity to handle. We need more resources, but your help can make an important difference. The number of children in CPS care continues to increase and CASA needs your help. We need people in the community to become advocates for these children.

Your student will develop the following skills:
- Leadership skills
- Community Involvement
- Multisensory and Student Centered Approach
The use of movement, touch, visual aids auditory presentation in the classroom environment really help children retain information faster. Combining arts with academics teaches children that learning can be fun. The student centered approach to learning incorporates inquiry-based learning and cooperative Learning. This method advances students’ social and emotional growth.
Providing a multi-sensory learning experience often makes learning fun for children who suffer with learning disabilities such as dyslexia. Some kids just don’t learn from black and white paper. Some kids are naturally creative and have a hard time learning from stacks of books. Those same kids can retain a world of information if it involves sight, smell and touch.
The important thing to remember is that to learn is a goal… not a method.
There are many methods of teaching and learning styles, none of which are necessarily wrong.
After serving 8 years in the Marines, JD started painting in an apprentice program that lasted for 1 year. During this time he spent countless hours before and after his work days studying painting materials and substrates to learn proper preparation and application techniques. Painting small jobs on the weekends he honed his skills to the point that at the end of his apprenticeship he was able to start his own business. Thus was born Christensen Home Restoration. Established in 1983 his business grew and as it did became a family ran business when his sons Justin and Don came to work for the company. Don now runs his own successful business in Hawaii. Justin remains a key component in operations and customer service. JD and his wife Terri reside in Cleburne TX. ** A personal note from JD – Terri and I have always enjoyed working with home owners and have made many friends of repeat customers who have been kind enough to refer us to their friends and family. We look forward to meeting you and helping you with your home.
