The Chamber celebrated 50 years of excellence at their Golden Gala on Saturday, September 17, 2016. The event was held at the beautiful new Oaks Event Center at Southern Oaks Golf Club. It was attended by over 200 guests who enjoyed a delightful evening that included a delicious meal, a keynote presentation by Mayor Ken Shetter, topped off with dancing under the stars with live band, Motown Sounds, on the Oak’s new outdoor patio.
Master of Ceremonies was Craig Couch, Couch & Russell Financial Group, who kept the crowd entertained with his humor and jokes. He introduced a room full of dignitaries, the Gala Sponsors, the Gala Committee and the Chamber Staff and thanked them all for their support of the event. The Chamber’s 2016 Chairman of the Board, Russ Richardson, gave the invocation.
Mayor Ken Shetter focused on the history of the Chamber and its close ties to the City of Burleson. Shetter said “We would not be the community that we are today without the commitment of those who started us on this great journey. So, in honor of everyone who was a part of the founding of the Chamber, some of whom are in this room tonight, let’s all express our sincere appreciation for their foresight and their hard work.”
Chamber President, Belinda Alles, gave closing comments revealing a number of milestones that have been accomplished over the course between 1966 and 2016. Highlighting the list was the purchase of the land from Burleson ISD back in 1978 and the new building that currently houses the Chamber that was completed in the early 80’s. Alles commented that she plans to carry on the legacy built over the past 50 years and lead the Chamber to new heights.
Fifty years of memories were documented in a PowerPoint presentation that ran on two large video screens, as well as numerous displays of photos and old newspaper articles. Photos and bios of the City of Burleson’s Mayors, dating back to 1912 starting with William P. Lace, also adorned the hallway leading into the event center.
A Photo Booth rounded out the entertainment for the evening and provided lots of laughs for the guests. A great time was had by all and “We could not have been more pleased with the venue”, stated Alles. “We are looking forward to the next 50 years!”
