The Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual BISD New Teacher Luncheon on Tuesday, August 11th to welcome new teachers and professionals to the community. The luncheon will take place at the Burleson High School cafeteria. Chamber and community members are welcome to attend.
Keynote speakers for the event are Dr. Bret Jimerson, superintendent of the Burleson ISD and Mayor Ken Shetter, City of Burleson.
Under the leadership of Dr. Jimerson for the past two years, the BISD has made some great advances in education and the state of our schools. This fall, the BISD will proudly open its new STEAM Middle School, integrating science, technology, engineering and math along with the elements of art through a focus on visual and graphic design. The school opened in response to a parent and student survey that reflected more than 51% would want to pursue a STEAM middle school campus.
With the opening of the new middle school, Dr. Jimerson and the Chamber will welcome nearly 175 new teachers and professionals at the August 11th luncheon.
Mayor Ken was elected mayor in June of 2004, during his 2nd term on Burleson’s City Council. While his priorities for Burleson include city efficiency and transparency, the continued revitalization of Old Town, public safety, job growth and more, he is also well-known for his passion for the city’s youth and for education.
Shetter has championed the expansion of higher education opportunities in Burleson and was instrumental in the development of the Burleson Opportunity Fund, dedicated to providing every high school graduate in Burleson the opportunity to gain a post-secondary education. Shetter currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Burleson Opportunity Fund.
The Chamber’s BISD New Employee Luncheon is open to the public and will be held at Burleson High School in the cafeteria. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online. Individuals and businesses are also encouraged to serve as a “Teacher Sponsor” for $25. For more information, call the Chamber offices at 817-295-6121.
